State legislature causes bridges to close

ELDORA – The changes in state legislature now allow “Special Haul Vehicles, or SHV’s” on secondary roads, putting more weight stress on bridges. Taylor Roll, Hardin County Engineer, states that this year, the county has no choice but to close, replace, and repair more bridges, while also posting new weight restrictions on many of them. On average, Hardin County has four new bridge postings per year and replaces about three bridges per year, but this year, five need replaced, three need repaired, three need closed and 13 need weight posting signs added.
