ICAT presents school grounds assessment

SOUTH HARDIN – The Eldora-New Providence school board was joined by Ryan Ellsworth of Estes Construction and ICAT (Iowa Construction and Advocate Team) at this month’s meeting. Ellsworth and his team began work late last year on an assessment of the school grounds, and just completed a book with a look at what it would take to bring the facilities up to 21st Century standards. The suggested updates were divided in three classifications—urgent, required, and recommended—and fell under different categories such as safety and security, building improvements, and site improvements. Items such as the leaky roof hatch were named urgent, while new safety glazing is required, and switching to LED lighting is recommended. Ellsworth noted that many aspects of the buildings were fine when they were originally built, but regulations have changed.
