Highly ranked Cougars upset

STATE CENTER- The highly-ranked AGWSR softball team suffered the season’s first North Iowa Cedar League West loss, dropping a 7-2 decision to West Marshall here Thursday.

After a perfect first trip around the league that included a 6-0 win over the Trojans in Ackley, the Cougars slipped to 6-1 in the conference and are 14-4 overall, snapping an eight game winning streak.

AGWSR climbed three spots in the latest state ratings released Thursday to No. 5 in Class 1A.

The Cougars outhit the hosts, 8-4 but base-on-balls were the difference. The Trojans showed patience at the plate, drawing 10 walks and six of those freebees scored.
