Healthy Connections: Happy Fall Everyone!

Well, it’s that time of year again that we start thinking about the flu season. Some of you may already have gotten your flu shot, but for those of you that are waiting, here is some more information regarding the “flu”.

Seasonal or the common flu is one of the most highly contagious illnesses. It is spread by respiratory drops when someone is coughing and sneezing. Someone may touch something with the flu virus on it such as doorknobs, telephones or shopping cart handles and then unwittingly touch their mouth or nose. Flu season typically runs from October through the end of February, but some years it can run into March and even April as well. It is estimated that 10-20 percent of the U.S. population contracts influenza each year.
