Hardin County Crop Progress Report

ELDORA – The weather conditions have created many challenges for Iowa farmers during this planting season. However, despite the ongoing wet conditions, Hardin County farmers have still made notable gains planting. At the Iowa State County’s Extension Office, Hardin County Director Darwin Miller states that, “most of the corn in the southern part of the county has been planted.” Miller goes on, “In the northern region, about 50 to 60 percent of the corn has already been planted.” The USDA National Agriculture Statistics Service states that Iowa corn growers have 70 percent of the crop planted, five days behind last year, and nine days behind the five-year average. “This is the smallest percent of corn planted by May 9 since 1995 when just 53 percent of the expected crop has been planted.
