Hansen Hospital cannot commit on ambulance service

How the pie of ambulance transfer calls will be divided among area services remains a big ques- tion. With emergency medical services facing reimbursement challenges, the often-lucrative market is much sought after.

Hansen Family Hospital CEO Doug Morse told the Hardin County Board of Supervisors and audience members that decisions about ambulance service transfers out of Hansen would hopefully be made on the basis of patient situation, destination proximity and availability of ambulances on short notice.

He said Hansen hopes this leads to a fair distribution of transfer business to all the local ambulance services, but declined to arbitrarily assign percentages of the business between services in Iowa Falls and Eldora.

He stopped short of making any commitment to fix shares of the business between the Eldora EMS and the now-being-inau- gurated service in Iowa Falls.
