Fifth grade and already going into business

It’s has become a rite of passage for fifth graders here in Hardin County. An intro to business starting in their own classroom and then off for a day in Iowa Falls to see the real thing in action.

This summer, 274 Hardin County fifth grade students from 6 school districts and 13 classrooms learned the fundamental principles of entrepreneurship and how they could someday start a business of their own.

With continued partnerships of the Hardin County Farm Bureau, Ellsworth Community College, Hardin County 4-H, and the Hardin County Community Endowment Foundation (HCCEF) this program is entering its tenth year.

The Entrepreneur for a Day Program (E4D) is an education and economic development strategy designed to enable youngsters to become successfully “employed” by starting and owning their own enterprises. E4D also incorporates the “Ag in the Classroom” program familiar to several school districts in this county by having a guest speaker explain how he/she is an entrepreneur in the field of agriculture.
