Field is set for council vote

Eldora will hold a special election to pick a fifth city council member. It is set for February 27 and with the close of business Friday – at a special 5 p.m. hour – the Hardin County Auditor’s office certified three candidates as having filed for the one post.

Current council member Cindy Johns and one-time member Jack Brekke, and Blake Jones of Eldora will contest for the seat.

The special vote comes after canvassers delivered a petition calling for the election to city hall several days ago.

The city just held a vote last November, but subsequent to that council member Dave Mitchell stepped down from his post, taking the job of city administrator here in Eldora.

That left his seat open, and one of the first orders of 2018 business for the council was to appoint outgoing council member Cindy Johns to fill out the remaining couple of years of Mitchell’s term.
