Cougars clip St. Edmond

   ACKLEY- The post-season opened with a tester for the sixth-ranked in Class 1A AGWSR softball team here Wednesday.

   A clutch two-out base hit by Rachel Sicard lifted the Cougars to a 2-1 walk-off win over St. Edmond during a 1A Region 8 quarterfinal contest.

   Sicard lined a two-out, full-count double to the left-centerfield gap to score pinch-running Mady Mausser from second base. Mausser was running for Hannah Homeyer, who started the bottom of the seventh with a base-on-balls and moved to second on a ground-out. Sicard had struck out, grounded-out and flew-out her previous three at-bats.
