Cougars to battle Janesville in state quarterfinals

The Cougars qualified for the state tourney’s Class 1A field with a pounding of St. Edmond, 9-0 Monday in the Region 7 final.

AGWSR, fourth-ranked, will take a 26-7 win-loss record to the state show and have won eight of the last nine games. The lone loss was to third-ranked in Class 3A Waterloo Columbus at the Don Bosco tournament and standout pitcher Taryan Barrick was not in the circle for the Cougars. In the eight wins, AGWSR has outscored the opponents, 49-0.

“We need to keep doing what we’re doing,” said AGWSR co-head coach Scott O’Brien. “Great pitching to keep us in the game and timely hitting and moving of runners to get runs in. We have had all of those lately.
