BCLUW softball beats GC, edged by EM

 

CONRAD- An optimistic BCLUW softball team walked away with a 5-1 win over Grundy Center during North Iowa Cedar League West play here Wednesday.

The Comets scored five runs around errors, walks and one single to finish the first tour around the conference at 4-2.

BCLUW led 1-0 two batters into the bottom of the first frame. Madison Ubben drew a full-court base-on-balls, motored to third on Lauren Anderson’s sac-bunt and when the throw to third bounced into leftfield, Ubben dashed home.

 

LEGRAND- Hours after the BCLUW softball team debut in the state rankings, East Marshall ended that excitement with a hard-fought 3-1 victory here Thursday during North Iowa Cedar League West play.

The Comets, listed No. 15 in Class 2A, lost a battle of the ranked with the Mustangs No. 13 in 2A.

East Marshall tallied two runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth to complete the home-and-away sweep. The Mustangs were an 8-5 winner in Conrad to open the conference campaign.
