150 year-plus historic hardware store changes ownership

New Providence Hardware, established in 1863, will soon have new ownership. Tom and Marlene McDonald are announcing that after 42 years in business, they have sold their celebrated historic treasure.

In the rural community of 225, buildings listed on the National Register are home to the hardware store and a community center where volunteers dish out breakfast every Monday morning for area residents.

As of January 2nd, 2018, Ben Speck will be the new owner. In Speck, the McDonalds said, “the business has a well-known and respected Master Electrician and electrical contractor from the area.”
